Real Madrid win over Leipzig at the Bernabéu was a statement of power. Goals from Bernardo Silva, Arda Güler, Kylian Mbappé and Diomande secured a 4-1 victory and a third straight Champions League triumph.
Madrid now have a perfect record in the competition. The result also gives Mourinho’s side great momentum before the Clásico.
Evenly Matched Start Before Madrid Take Control
The opening stages saw both teams take turns on the ball. Neither side could establish a firm grip on the game.
That changed around the 15th minute. Madrid began to pin Leipzig back and reached the visitors’ area with growing regularity.
Courtois and Vandevoordt Keep the Game Level
Leipzig created the clearest chance of the first half in the 28th minute. Rómulo shot inside the area, and Thibaut Courtois made a brilliant save to keep it goalless.
Madrid responded straight away. Vini Jr. carried the ball through on an individual run and fired from the edge of the area. Leipzig goalkeeper Vandevoordt made a superb stop to deny him.
Courtois starred again in the 41st minute. He stood firm in a one-on-one against Nkunku and preserved the balance of the contest.
Bernardo Silva Breaks the Deadlock
The breakthrough came three minutes later, at the other end. Valverde delivered a cut-back, and Arda Güler shot. Vandevoordt saved, but the ball fell to Bernardo Silva, who finished the rebound into the net.
That goal sent Madrid into halftime with a deserved lead. It also added Silva’s name to the club’s scorers’ list in the competition.
Madrid Push for More After the Break
Madrid did not ease off after the interval. Valverde had a chance to extend the lead in the 47th minute, shooting from a slight angle inside the area. Vandevoordt deflected it away.
Güler Doubles the Lead
The second goal arrived five minutes later. Bellingham delivered a cross into the box, and Kylian Mbappé outjumped the Leipzig goalkeeper to win the header.
Arda Güler reacted quickest. Just before Raum could clear, he nudged the ball over the line. It was the second consecutive match in which the Turkish midfielder found the net.
Mbappé Adds a Spectacular Third
The final stages were thrilling. Mbappé extended the lead with a spectacular right-footed shot from the edge of the area.
It was a powerful strike and effectively settled the contest. Madrid now led 3-0 and looked firmly in control.
Gomis Pulls One Back for Leipzig
Leipzig refused to give up. Gomis reduced the deficit two minutes later to make it 3-1.
The goal gave the visitors a brief moment of hope. Madrid had no intention of letting the game slip.
Diomande Seals the Rout With a Wonder Goal
Diomande had the final word in the 87th minute. He struck a stunning right-footed volley into the top corner.
It was a fitting end to the evening. The goal sealed the 4-1 scoreline and capped another impressive night at the Bernabéu.
What the Real Madrid Win Means
This result extends Madrid’s perfect start in the Champions League to three matches. Three wins from three show a team in confident form.
The attacking display was also encouraging. Four different players scored, which shows the variety of threats in Mourinho’s side.
Courtois also deserves credit. His saves in the first half kept Leipzig out at key moments and made the later goals possible.
El Clásico Next for Mourinho’s Men
Attention now turns to the El Clásico. Madrid will head into that game with confidence and a flowing attack.
