Mbappe Double Crushes Barcelona’s Perfect Start

A Mbappe double has wrecked Barcelona’s date with history. Real Madrid won the 265th El Clasico 2-1, and Kylian Mbappe scored both goals to stop the league leaders from becoming the first LaLiga club to win their opening 10 matches of a season.

Barca came in as the team chasing the record. Madrid left the Nou Camp with the points.

Madrid Start Brightly in El Clasico

Madrid created the first real chance. Arda Guler pounced on a misplaced Pedri pass and sprinted into the box, but he blazed his shot over the bar.

The early opportunity gave Jose Mourinho reason to feel encouraged. He was managing in his first Clasico since March 2013.

His afternoon also had its tense moments. Referee Juan Martinez Munuera spoke to the Madrid boss after just 10 minutes, when Mourinho protested a foul given against Aurelien Tchouameni.

Barca Lose Espart to Injury

Barcelona suffered a setback on the half-hour mark. Right-back Xavi Espart went down injured and gave way to Alejandro Balde.

Madrid tried to take advantage. Mbappe sent an acrobatic volley over the bar, and Anthony Gordon saw his near-post effort parried behind by Andriy Lunin.

Lunin was playing his first game of the season. Thibaut Courtois was ruled out with the flu.

The Mbappe Double Begins With a Lucky Break

Fortune then smiled on Madrid. Four minutes before half-time, Gerard Martin tried to clear the ball, but it struck Mbappe from six yards out and flew into the net.

It was Mbappe’s 10th league goal of the season. He is Madrid’s top scorer.

A Frantic End to the First Half

The first half closed with a flurry of chances. Lamine Yamal and Yan Diomande both fired wide when well placed.

The next goal looked crucial, and the Barca fans raised the volume as the second period began.

Raphinha Draws Barca Level

The home crowd got its reward in the 61st minute. Raphinha received the ball inside the box and found the far corner.

It was his 15th goal in all competitions this term. He is Barca’s top scorer.

Madrid Push Back, Lunin Responds

Madrid wanted an instant reply. Joan Garcia parried away a snapshot from Guler.

Barca stayed buoyant, though. Lunin made a stunning reflex save to keep out a header from Martin.

Yamal then bent an effort inches wide. Frenkie de Jong also saw a shot blocked in the closing stages.

Mbappe Double Seals the Win

The decisive blow arrived three minutes from time. Eduardo Camavinga beat Garcia to a through ball and squared it for his France team-mate.

Mbappe tapped home, and the Mbappe double was complete. He was named Man of the Match.

Records and Streaks Fall

The result carried real weight. It was Madrid’s first victory at the Nou Camp since October 2023.

It was also only their second win in the last eight head-to-heads, with six defeats. For Mourinho, it stretched his unbeaten run against the Blaugrana as Madrid boss to six matches, with four wins and two draws.

What the Result Means for the Table

Barcelona’s long home run is over. Their streak of 23 successive home league wins ended in dramatic fashion.

Madrid remain third in the table. They now sit just three points behind their rivals.

Perfect Start Ends at Nine

Barca will not make LaLiga history this time. The first 10-win opening to a season in the league’s history will have to wait.

Madrid, meanwhile, took a huge statement result from the biggest fixture in Spain.
