Chelsea vs Everton delivered a fiery Premier League encounter at Hill Dickinson Stadium, where Xabi Alonso’s side ground out a hard-fought 2-0 victory. The decisive win denied the hosts a rare chance to go unbeaten through their first seven league fixtures.

Fiery First Half on Merseyside

Everton welcomed Chelsea with high hopes, eager to capitalize on their strong recent home record against the London club. The early minutes were physically intense, sparked by Harrison Armstrong’s hard tackle on Josh Acheampong that fired up the home crowd.

Everton threatened first when Thierno Barry headed Jack Grealish’s cross straight into the hands of Emiliano Martinez. Grealish then came close himself with a bouncing strike that forced Martinez into a sharp parry over the crossbar.

Tensions flared off the ball when James Tarkowski needlessly barged into Moises Caicedo, triggering a heated exchange involving Morgan Rogers and Jordan Henderson. Barry was denied by Martinez once again after brilliant work down the left by Vitali Mykolenko.

Chelsea took time to find their rhythm, but finished the half dangerously: Caicedo smashed a stunning volley against the crossbar before Jordan Pickford reacted quickly to tip Pedro Neto’s strike over the top.

Second-Half Surge and Neto’s Double

The momentum shifted immediately after the restart. Less than a minute into the second half, Rogers and Jorrel Hato combined seamlessly down the left flank. Hato set up Pedro Neto, who drove a low shot underneath Pickford’s outstretched arm to give Chelsea the lead.

With Chelsea hitting their stride, Cole Palmer nearly doubled the advantage with a delicate chip that cleared the crossbar.

However, drama struck for the visitors when Martinez suffered a heavy collision with Jarrad Branthwaite during a set-piece. Martinez was stretchered off, forcing Mike Penders into action for his Premier League debut—making him the youngest goalkeeper to play in the competition for Chelsea.

Despite the setback, Chelsea sealed all three points late in the game. After Jordan Henderson’s free-kick hit the Everton wall, Neto gathered the ball with composure and slotted a clean left-footed finish into the net.

The victory marked a crucial milestone for Chelsea, ending a nine-month streak of 22 league matches without a clean sheet—their longest run without a shutout since August 1961. The win lifts Chelsea to fourth on the table.

For David Moyes’ Everton side, this first defeat of the campaign saw them drop to sixth place.
